Metro Soccer

What is Metro?
Metro (also called Select) is the level of soccer between Recreational and Competitive. The Metro league offers an environment for dedicated and skilled players to develop and play.

The greatest differences between recreational and select soccer are the length of the practice season and the amount of tournament play. In addition to a 10-game fall schedule, Metro teams generally play in weekend tournaments in June through December. The number of tournaments varies from team to team—some may go to two or three tournaments, while others may play in as many as seven or eight. The Metro league covers a wide geographic area; you may play teams from anywhere from Fairfield to Chico to El Dorado Hills.

The cost for Metro is higher than for recreational play and also varies by team. In addition to the normal club registration fees, Metro costs might include uniforms, equipment, and tournament entry fees.

The East Sacramento Soccer Club does not field Metro teams in every age group. Metro teams are normally formed when a core group of players from a recreational team decides to make the commitment to a longer, more intense campaign. The club holds tryouts every year in March or April so that teams can fill any open roster spots.

Coaches interested in moving teams to Metro need the following:

  • Head Coach - 'E' Coaching License
  • Asst Coach - 'F' Coaching License
  • Either Head or Asst. Coach need a USSF Grade 8 Referee License.
Please refer the to SYSL website for upcoming clinics in our area.

The licensing requirements, application and tryout process require advance planning for prospective teams interested in playing select soccer. Please contact the Coaching Coordinator Jason Wahleithner, (916) 764-1969 for additional information.
