Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

You've signed up for soccer... what happens next?

As the process of registering players and coaches goes on please be aware that the process takes a while. Once teams have been created and assigned to coaches, those coaches will contact you. You will hear from your child's coach around the end of July and into the beginning of August. If you haven't heard from your child's coach by mid August contact the Registrar to inquire about your child's team.

My child is under 6 years old. Can they play for East Sac Soccer?

If your child is four years old on July 31, he or she can play soccer with the club. If your child is less than six years old on July 31, he or she would play in the Under-6 division against other 4-5 year olds. All U-6 teams are coed. The registration form allows players to request teams, coaches, or friends, and we can usually honor those requests for on-time registrations. All the U-6 games take place Saturday mornings at Theodore Judah school. Almost all of the U6 teams practice there. We had 12 teams last year and Judah was crowded enough that 3-4 teams practiced at East Portal Park or David Lubin School instead.

Most U-6 teams practice 1-2 times a week for about an hour. Depending on the coach's work schedule, your practice may start as early as 4:00 or as late as 6:30.

All coaches are volunteers and many successful coaches have never played soccer before. If you have the time, coaching is a very rewarding experience and I encourage you to volunteer.

The season runs 11 weeks between Labor Day and Thanksgiving. Teams can start practices on August 1, but most U-6 teams don't begin until late August.

Now that my child is 6 what age division do they play in?

If your child is six or seven years old on July 31, he or she would play in the Under-8 division against other 6-7 year olds. Under-8 teams are separated into boys teams and girls teams, although occasionally a girl will chose to play on a boys team. The girls practice and play home games at Bertha Henschel Park. The boys practice and play home games at McKinley Park. If we have a lot of teams (it varies from year to year), some coaches might practice at David Lubin School.

Most U-8 teams practice for 1 hour or 1.5 hours, two days a week. Depending on the coach's work schedule, your practice may start as early as 4:00 or as late as 6:30. It's up to the coach.

Saturday games start as early as 9:00 and as late as 1:00 pm. Half the games will be away games against other soccer clubs. The schedule is different for every team, but you might travel to places like River Park, West Sacramento, or even Dixon. These clubs--and our own--are all members of the Sacramento Youth Soccer League. For a complete list of those clubs look on www.sysl.com.

The season runs 11 weeks between Labor Day and Thanksgiving. Teams can start practices on August 1, and most U-8 teams are already practicing by August 15.
